BEST pupusas in the area...hands down! Carne Asada was very tasty and prices are reasonable. I wouldn't recommended for dining in, the waitress recommended I call next to order in advance. Im giving them 4 stars and not 5 because they charged me 2.50 for sour cream!!

Very good value. The carne asada is delicious, love the large salad on the side with avocado and hard boiled eggs.

Came for breakfast since the Feds closed for the snow. Extremely clean and warm atmosphere with lots of blues. We sat at the high top counters inside. Service was prompt and very friendly. We both got typical breakfasts and papusas. I'm not into plantains but my boyfriend was all about them. The scrambled eggs were moist and fluffy with fresh vegetables. The tortillas were steaming and so soft. I could have eaten just tortillas really. The papusas were on point. Could have used more curtido to go with them, but then again I eat way too much of that as is. The hortcha was quite tasty as well. You'll find me here again soon!

Just had 4 pupusas! Yum very delicious. Spices and the texture are perfect. Was to go. Very satisfying food and don't feel guilty or stuffed after you eat it. The waiters were very nice.

This place is all that and then some. Can't beat the delicious $1.50 pupusas. Homemade tortillas that accompany the fajitas. We got the mixed fajitas, next time will get all beef or all chicken.

Loved it. They seem to have moved to a newer space in the same shopping center as Pho 75, which is how I ended up here. Pho 75 was closed for whatever reason, so husband and I decided to try this joint. So glad we did. This place was gooooood. The food was so flavorful, prices were great, and service was prompt and kind. I got the beef tripe soup, which absolutely cured my pho craving. Husband got the mixed fajitas, and cleaned his plate even though he claimed he wasn't hungry. Can't wait to go back, this place is a hidden gem!

okay. im a business traveler and I was in Takoma Park. HONESTLY, if this joint was in a bigger city, it would be 3 stars at most. The 5 stars is for the quality of food in a town where there isn't much. Had their Fajita mix with shrimp, chicken, and beef - so colorful and amazing - remember, this is served with rice, beans, AND thick fajita. Paired this with their tamarind drink and meal is served. best of all - they are super nice, clean, and ACCEPTS CREDIT CARDS!

I am so happy I found a spot that I love their pupusas and sopa de res! Mi-Patria's on riggs rd had both on lock but their sopa started missing carrots and other veggies. This place has both the bomb sopa and pupusas!! Next to try the ceviche!

The food is awesome and cheap. I've been there a few times, and tried a range of things on the menu. I'm addicted to the carne asada tacos. They put avocado slices, slices of boiled eggs, radishes, a lime to squeeze over them. Heaven! Yes, English is not their strong suit, but I've usually had quick and friendly service anyway.
(5)Roy S.
I had the Carne Asada and my friend had the breakfast. We were both pleased that the food was quick and tasty. i agree that if you do not speak spanish communication could be a problem, my friend just pointed to the picture and he got what he ordered. Several of the waitresses are quite lovely and I will go back soon!

**3.5*** Great little spot for muy autentico Salvadoran cuisine. This former Dairy Queen makes the perfect stop for a lazy Sunday afternoon lunch on a delightful fall day. We sampled the Pupusas con Queso y Loroco (a central american herb) and the Pupusas con Frijoles. Both were excellent, fresh and hot and served with the requisite Curtido (Vinegar and pepper slaw). The curtido was a little raw for my liking, I prefer the cabbage to be brined a little longer, still quite good. I had a trio of tacos, Lengua (Beef Tongue), Chicken and Carne Asada, the Lengua being the hands down best of the three. The tacos are more of a production than a traditional Mexican al pastor, coming with radishes, chopped onions, salsa verde, cilantro, lime and hard boiled egg. Truly delicious. My dining partner in crime had the Desayuno Tipico (traditional breakfast) which is simply scrambled eggs, black bean frijoles, sweet platanos, crema and queso fresca. It came with two hand pressed corn tortillas, which were hot off the griddle. Service is very friendly but if you are not a Spanish speaker you may have some difficulty communicating. Fortunately, the menu has pictures and English translations. The menu is fairly sparse with just a handfull of typical Salvadoran dishes, including Tripe Soup, Seafood Soup and a number of grilled meats to choose from. Plenty of outdoor seating as well as counter seats on the inside. La Chiquita is very popular and "carry out" is a big part of the business. ***post script*** Yelp really needs to expand the ethnic cuisine options to include Salvadoran, or at the very least Central American, as this in NOT a Mexican restaurant. Not even close.

Good place for a filling, and scrumptious Salvadorian meal in Takoma Park. The flavorful and ice cool horchata quenched my thirst, and the carne asada was great. I tried it for the first time during the time my power was out for a week, and I am so glad they were open for business!

Service was slow, but well worth the wait. And the price? Very nice

There are certain things on the menu that push this review to 5 stars. Get the Fajita Mixtas. For $10 you cannot go wrong. It's got beef, chicken, and shrimp. It's a mountain of food and it's awesome. Also get the Salvadoran Chicken Sandwich. Awesome for $5.50. I can get full on 3 papusas $1.25/ea. Oh, and they're awesome. Now that I've moved into the neighborhood I've gone about 5 times in 2 months. I'll be going a lot more.

Food was a little slow but the food was good. I had my first ever pupusa and it was great. A toungue taco later and I'm full

Solid Salvadoran place at the corner of East-West Highway and New Hampshire Avenue. I got the desayuno tipico and my companion the pescado frito (fried fish), and both were just like what you'll get in Central America.

We decided to check this place out after arriving in DC. Man was it a hassle to get to from the Reagan airport, lol. But anyway, we walked into the completely empty restaurant and another family immediately followed us in. We grabbed some tables and the other family sat a few tables behind us. We did not know this family, lol. I had the meat and cheese pupusas along with everyone else in my party. We also ordered some soup. When the server brought out our food and drinks, everything was all wrong and confusing. Drinks, food, etc..it was a huge mess. It took awhile, but finally we got our food. They weren't the best pupusas I've ever had, but they weren't terrible either. When we got our check, it came out to about $200. What?! For pupusas that are a dollar or so each and we got about 20 of them. How did that turn out to $200? Upon further inspection of the check, turns out she added all this stuff we didn't order. We immediately told her and she realized that she thought we were with the other family that walked in around the same time as us. So that's why the food was all wrong, and the total was insane. Yikes. I'm not sure why she thought we were together since we sat 2 tables away from them.... very weird. She got it taken care of and after much much much much confusion, we were on our way.

Came in sat down and ordered our food. Next customer came in 10 mins later ordered their food and are served. We waited another 10 mins before we are served. Once the food came it was OK, we have had better at other locations. We finished our food ask for the check and have to wait about 15 mins before it arrives. It wasn't busy. There were three waitresses and less than 20 customer total. I was not impressed with the service or the food.

This place has quickly become our favorite breakfast spot. Be prepared to wait a bit for hand crafted, super-fresh hot food. Delicioso!
(5)Edwin V.
I have been here a few times, you get good quality food for a great price. During the summer is nice, it's pretty much out door eating. During the winter time in the other hand AVOID. The only real complaint I would say is at times the waitresses tend to forget about you. Happened to me several times.

This place has worst service!! I went 2 weekends ago after a soccer game with my boyfriend waited for about 30 minutes for the waitress to take my order it took another thirty minutes to get my food! I was patient and did not say anything! I decided I wanted to give it one more try and was a total disappointment!! I went with my family the waitress took our order and waited 40 minutes for my order to come out.I went and complained that what was the delay because everyone else that came in after me had there orders already they told me my order would be coming soon.... 15 minutes later my boyfriend got his pupusas in a melted plate... My order (fajitas) finally came and they were cold!!! At this point I lost my appetite and returned my food! I asked to speak to the manager and instead of apologizing she argued with me! I will never go to this place again and I do not recommend it!!!!

good price for decent food

Amazing! This hidden gem is definitely one of the best places in the area for pupusas! You have to eat it there though - bringing it home is definitely not as good since you don't get the crispy exterior but the flavors are still there. I normally get two cheese and beans pupusas and two tacos - the lengua is fantastic! They add avacado and a slice of hard boiled egg to their tacos...different but delicious! One star less for their horchata and agua frescas....dangerously sweet!
(4)Jennifer B.
This place is a gem! Authentic Salvadoran food. Yummy tacos, beef steak fajita, and pupusas. Before La Chiquita, I didn't even think I liked pupusas --- I always found them super greasy and not flavorful. But not the way they make them at La Chiquita. Simply delish! O' and did I mention the beans? They are served as side here but I wish they were main with rice! Definitely worth a visit.

I live this place! Great prices and great food! Whenever I work in this area I stop in for a bite.

Fee places in the DC area actually deliver a true central American restaurants ambiance. This place does though. Not fancy but the food is great and the design is so reminicent.....great space.
(5)Adelina Z.
Great local inexpensive traditional Salvadorian food. Try the beef tongue tacos; they made me a believer. Absolutely delicious. The carne asada with shrimp platter was good as well. The only thing they fall short on are the pupusas. They could be better. But unlike other places, their pupusas aren't swimming in excess oil. La Chiquita is definitely worth trying.

Serendipitous find. I got lost roaming around Takoma Park and I couldn't pass up this little find. I didn't need to whip out my iPhone and look it up on yelp to know the food would be fantastic. The bustling outdoor tables full of happy people sitting under a bright blue awning was enough. My waitress only spoke Spanish, I only spoke English, but we managed to get it right. I had a cheese pupusa and the trio of tacos. Despite the other review, I stayed away from the tongue one and I was relieved my waitress understood. My friend had the Sopa de Mariscos and swore it was the best soup ever. It looked a little challenging for me, but the broth was delicious. It had a couple of large shrimp, half a md crab, and a big chunk of tilapia, served with two piping hot tortillas. If you don't speak a word of Spanish, don't worry, the menu is full of photos and you'll be able to find a tasty dish. I have a feeling this is one place everything is delicious, even the tripe. :)

3.5-ish The food - awesome! Price - awesome! The wait - omg, please kill me. I went in for carry-out & it took well over 1 hour. I thought about leaving, but a pair of guys did that as I was thinking about it and made a scene over it. I felt bad for the waitress, so I stayed.... held hostage. One of the cooks in the kitchen wore shirt that said, "La Chiquita Express" -- there is nothing express about this place. I am not sure where the break down was in everything -- it seemed to me that they were short staffed and slammed. If you are going, either stay, eat there, and take your time, or call ahead for carry out. There are bar stools to sit at on the inside or there are tables inside of a zipped up patio area outside.

Great food. Nice people.
(5)Laura H.
Cheap and DELICIOUS. I recommend the pupusas and the fajitas mixtas.
(5)Eddy A.
Delicious pupusas for takeout, and very affordable.
(4)Evan L.
We wanted to love this place. It's close to home and the outdoor seating is copious and cute. Sadly, the food was mediocre. The pupusas were ok, the sopa de res a letdown, her fajitas decent, the but horchata was from some sort of gritty instant mix: sweet but not all it could be.
(2)Joe C.
Delicious, it got a tad pricey but worth it. I should have brushed up on my Spanish lol. My girlfriend margarita was meh but honestly the food was great. I had the fish, my cousin had an assortment of tacos and my girlfriend had the same. If I'm ever in that area again and craving Mexican cuisine I'm stopping here.

I absolutely LOVED La Chiquita! I visited during lunchtime with a large group in early March and we decided to all go for pupusas and tacos. They were AMAZING! I truly enjoyed the succulent shredded beef tacos with that mouth-watering guacamole on top (it's been a while since I've had good guacamole, and this native Californian needed her guacamole fix!) This was my first real experience eating Salvadoran food, and I will certainly be back for more. I would highly recommend getting take-out - a friend of mine said she gets take-out several times a week from here.
